The e-verify program for employers seems to be a success, as more employers are entering and enrolling the system. The eVerify System is hooked into Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which helps the business from hiring "evil doer" bad guys. Currently, in California some 10,000 plus businesses and employers now use e-verify.
The program is not without it's very vocal critics, as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce complains that that it has a huge error rate and the ACLU agrees that the high error rate is unfair to many. Still, the system keeps growing and now President Obama has asked the US Congress to spend more than 10 million dollars more to keep it going.
Business Owners have previously complained that they want to maintain a legal workforce without being harassed or fined when they hire someone that they thought was legal or who was using false documentation. All in all, so far some 120,000 plus businesses have signed up nationwide and the program is growing.
This is a real problem for illegal immigrants who wish to come to work, and many employers now are sending them packing. In Arizona there has been a large decrease in problems especially in the construction industry.
The Mexican Government's data shows that remittance are down to a trickle compared to 2007 and early 2008 and they show migration to the US is also down. This is bad for their economic inflows and good for the US as it is stabilizing the illegal immigration challenges. eVerify is working and although it has some bugs to work out employers seem to like it. Please consider this.
